Another day gone

Another day gone but no paintings, so its a sketch from my sketchbook again.  I feel as if I am running up a down escalator at the moment, with no time to catch up.

These are from a series of large thumbnail sketches of a boat in the dry dock of the harbour in Bridlington, where I live.  I am looking for an abstraction of the subject. I have painted it before but I want to make it a more fractured image , similar to the Still Life I did last month.

I only just noticed, this is my 100th post - amazing.

more sketchbook work

I'm getting ready to go away for the weekend, so not much time.  Just working in my sketchbook in the evenings.

sketchbook work

I have been working in my sketchbook this week, using photographs I took last week, trying to capture the racing clouds and the empty beach.

Using your own photographs, printed onto thin watercolour paper and then torn to make a collage is a good way to quickly capture the feeling of a place, without having to stand in the freezing cold.

Bridlington Harbour

Enjoying working in a loose way with acrylics.  Definitely not a restricted palette today!  I used pastels at the end to bring back some of the brights.

You can tell that I was using the same colours as yesterday on a stay-wet palette!

Experiment in loose painting

Worked from a sketch made on a cold, blustery day.  Minimal palette of Phthalo Blue (green shade),  Burnt Sienna, Cadmium Yellow medium, a little Ultramarine, and white.

Using thick brush marks to convey the weather on that day.

Daily, or mostly daily painting

Recording my experiments with painting, hopefully on most days.  By painting every day, I hope to improve both the design and technique in my artwork.
